Days of public law

FOREWORD

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear guests and colleagues,

When preparatory works on the conference “Days of Public Law” have been commenced, the organizers have not expected such a high and, of course, appreciated interest.

It has become a pleasant tradition to have an opportunity to meet our honourable colleagues from Slovakia and share our knowledge and experience with them. This time we have been complimented by having an opportunity to welcome our honourable colleagues from Austria, Belarus, Hungary, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Switzerland at the Masaryk University, Faculty of Law as well. Let us express our thanks to all participants for visiting Brno and presenting their ideas and theories within four sections of the conference – Constitutional Law Section, Administrative Law Section, Criminal Law Section and International and European Law Section.

We expect that a meeting of experts from the above mentioned countries will become a convenient and amicable forum for mutual exchange of ideas.

The Academic Committee endeavoured to define thematic scope of each section so as to reflect current situation within given field and give to the participants an opportunity to address the most poignant questions.

For these reasons “Current Issues after the Accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union” have been chosen as a discussion point for the Constitutional Law Section. The Administrative Law Section has focused on the “Reform of the Public Administration” in all of the above mentioned countries. Likewise, a reform of this branch of law has been chosen for the Criminal Law Section. Finally, “The Application of European Law by National Authorities” is a head theme for the International and European Law Section.

The conference organizers do not consider the “Days of Public Law” as merely a scientific forum, but they hope for wider social connotation of this gathering. The academic representatives as well as the practitioners will have an occasion to meet at the Faculty of Law, which affords an opportunity not only for professional information exchange, but also for creation of friendly relations between experts from both areas, which might positively influence both the legislature and the practical legal application.

We are honoured that JUDr. Pavel Rychetský, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic (as regards the Constitutional Law Section), Ing. Stanislav Juránek, the Governor of the South Moravia Region (as regards the Administrative Law Section), JUDr. Renata Vesecká, the Supreme Public Prosecutor (as regards Criminal Law Section) and prof. JUDr. Naděžda Rozehnalová, CSc., the Dean of the Faculty of Law, MU, have accepted patronage over the “Days of Public Law” conference.

The members of the Organizational and the Academic Committee hope that by organizing the “Days of Public Law” conference, they have founded a tradition of meetings of professionals in the future.
